Ending Chronic Pain and Disease by Turning Your Genes On and Off – Matt Riemann
Matt Riemann has managed to defy a genetic condition called familial amyloid polyneuropathy which causes excruciating pain. He was diagonosed with this neurodegenerative and autoimmune condition in 2007. He was told that he had 10 years left to live.
By adjusting his lifestyle and diet, Reimann claims that he was able to control the on and off switches of his genes. Controlling our health conditions by influencing the ways our genes express or don’t express themselves is called epigenetics.
Recently Reimann launched an online platform ph360.me called “the user manual for your body.” It generates individualized recommendations based on these epigenetic influences on your health. Reimann is also the founding director of the non-profit Ultimate Human Foundation dedicated to eliminating chronic pain and disease.
While Reimann’s ultimate success in defeating his familial health condition remains to be seen, the idea of being able to control the on and off switches of genes points to a new frontier in treatment options for autoimmune and metabolic health conditions.
