The Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear today on the Mall in Washington, D.C. was well worth taking the time to watch. There was a certain amount of clowning around and portraying the arguments of the political right and left in extreme terms, as would be expected from Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert. I enjoyed the music and the variety of performers and skits that I saw as I moved around the house doing normal Saturday morning tasks. The thing that most delighted me and led me to sit down and actually watch closely, however, was Jon Stewart’s final speech. “Fear” and fear-mongering had just been conquered in the previous skit and he emerged with a call for sanity, cooperation and hope as we move forward as a nation to solve the challenges that face us. That is a call I hope we can hear and a challenge we will accept.
